The following images are taken from a project to investigate the needs of the Akha Hill Tribe living, around the village of Kiu Satai, about 10km west of Mae Chan, Northern Thailand. The focus of the project was in gathering supportive evidence for use in a grant application to help build a new school.

Originally Chinese immigrants, the Akha are essentially stateless and not recognised by the Thai Governement. They are supported by missionary work and what can be made from tourism. Their children are often mistakenly sold into child slavery.

The images portray the graphical reality of the Akha's daily life and struggle to make ends meet. Even amidst the hardship, some Akha still find it possible to help orphaned children from their own tribe, quite incredible when you see fist hand their own living conditions.
